The 2018 American Transplant Congress (ATC), the must-attend conference for transplant professionals around the world, was held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle June 2–6. As the joint meeting of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and the American Society of Transplantation (AST), the 2018 event brought together nearly 5,000 attendees and exhibitors—a diverse mix of physicians, surgeons, scientists, nurses, organ procurement personnel, advanced transplant providers, pharmacists, administrators, and other transplant professionals. “The American Transplant Congress provided the opportunity for all professionals in transplantation to come together to share basic and clinical research, debate the hottest topics, explore the latest innovative technology, reconnect with colleagues and friends around the world, and collaborate to identify future opportunities for the advancement of our field,” said Dr. Matthew Cooper, ASTS Chair of the Executive Planning Committee. “The Congress remains one of the most anticipated events in the transplantation field.” The five-day event featured nearly 1,800 abstracts, 500+ oral presentations, and more than 1,200 poster presentations, all delivered in a way that encouraged the exchange of new clinical and scientific information and supported an interchange of opinions regarding care management and socioeconomic, ethical, and regulatory issues relevant to organ and tissue transplantation. “The ATC offers diverse educational programs for transplant professionals, a wide range of concurrent sessions covering all relevant topics in transplantation, in depth discussion of challenging issues facing the field, as well as controversies, emerging concepts, and updates from ongoing clinical trials.
